May Book Review!

It's book review time!

For those of you that love to read, you're like...

And the rest of you are like...

But I love you all!

This month I read some really good ones. It's nice to finally be out of school and be able to read just for fun. I love to read the Bible, but some of those Seminary textbooks would have me on the pillow next to Peanut in the picture above!

Here's what I've read lately:

This is another one of those that is coming to theaters in 2016 that I wanted to read first. It was a slow start, but a sweet story. A girl named Louisa takes a badly needed job working for a guy named Will, who is wheelchair bound after an accident. Will has always lived an adventurous life, but no longer wants to live the way he is.
.

I loved this one! The story that started out is not the one that ended. The book developed that much! AJ lives alone above his bookstore when a very rare package is delivered that changed his life forever. A must read!

This is a quick and quirky chick-lit if you're looking for some light mindless summer reading. A novelist up and decides she wants to be a fashion designer even though she knows nothing about fashion except shopping.

I've always liked Kristin Cavallari from her Laguna Beach and The Hills days, so of course I wanted to read her book. It's more of a "coffee table read" as opposed to a biopic of her life. There's a lot of emphasis on health and whole foods and includes a lot of recipes. Kristin does share some anecdotes from her life and her time on reality television, but if you're expecting an in depth memoir, this is not it.

I was also first introduced to Kelly Cutrone on The Hills and The City and instantly related to her high intensity work ethic and the public relations industry. She's just one tough chic, and I really enjoyed reading this book, It's not for everyone, but for a career girl or #girlboss, you would definitely get a kick out of her stories!

Twisted (Pretty Little Liars Book 9)  Ruthless (Pretty Little Liars Book 10)
And last but not least, I'm still working my way through the Pretty Little Liars series finishing both books 9 and 10 this month. They are always intriguing and addicting. Very little is like the show, so you truly don't know what's going to happen next!

What have you been reading this month? I'd love to hear from you in the comments!

Friday Favorites - Dad is on TV, Mom goes to Prom, and a Giveaway!

What a busy but awesome week!

I'm so glad it's a three day weekend because I need it to recover!

As always we are linking up with ErikaNarci, and Andrea for their Friday Favorites!

This week we held our annual City of Hattiesburg "Senior Prom"!

The theme was the Roaring 20s!

And I of course was one of the characters...

Mom was less than impressed this year. This was her fourth (and most likely last prom) to attend.

Here she is at the Sock Hop 2 years ago... She was a hit!

She had a good time, yes, but it was just too much stimulation for her. Makes me sad.

I can't show pictures of my residents, but he LOVED the theme and had the best time with the "lady in red"...! I had to tell him it was me! I think that ruined it for him.

The group shot of all the entertainers.

Then we had the National Senior Health and Fitness Day Health Fair.
Just call me "Lady Lamar"!

The Hattiesburg area Marketing Professionals for Senior Living.

And now for a fun update! Dad is going to be on TV... again! I will have to let you know when his episode will air on Farm Week and Southern Gardening, but here's a little behind the scenes look at what they will be featuring.

My Dad is known for his raised gardens and accessible gardening. He's quite a hit in Mississippi and has been featured in several publications and broadcasts, but this year he has expanded and the results speak for themselves. He usually yields over 500 lbs of tomatoes alone, and that's just one veggie!

Artis Ford, Managing Editor and Farm Week Co-Anchor, Dad, Dr. Gary Bachman, Host of Southern Gardening, and Jerry Good, President of Pine Belt Master Gardeners

I will be doing a full post on this soon, so stay tuned!

Dad has been featured on Farm Week and Southern Gardening many times before, so just for fun, I've included his first video just to show how far he's come!

(This is Dr. Gary Bachman, the same guy that's in the Hawaiian shirt in the photo with Dad above!)

Links to Love - The Little Market!

There is nothing I love more than a giving heart.

And today's link to love is all about that. Let me introduce you to The Little Market.

Founded by Lauren Conrad and Hannah Skvarla, The Little Market is an online marketplace where customers can purchase beautiful products handmade by artisans around the world. They provide design insights, helping their partners to showcase their traditional skills and cultural techniques to a broader audience. They practice fair trade principles, and every purchase from The Little Market generates meaningful income for the artisans and their families.

Working through cooperatives and social enterprises, their artisan partners improve the quality of life in their communities in a number of ways, including literacy workshops, business training, and health programs. Women artisans are often able to work from home while caring for their families, and they can use the extra income to send their children to school.

Their mission is to build sustainable partnerships with artisans from around the world, by connecting them with customers through an online marketplace. They seek to empower women artisans to rise above poverty and support their families.

Their handmade goods showcase the artisans’ traditional skills and their dedication to preserving their artisanal techniques. They source all of the artisans’ products ethically and practice fair trade principles.

Be sure to check out The Little Market for unique gifts and accessories. I love knowing my purchases are making a difference in someone's life!

Friday Favorites!

Friday!

Doesn't it just feel so good to hear that word?!

As always, we are linking up with Andrea, Erika and Narci for Friday Favorites! You should totally check them out too, by the way! We have had a busy few weeks down here. Lots of birthdays, end of the semester stuff, choir rehearsals, etc! I need a summer to relax, how about y'all? Fortunately I have a few vacations coming up this year to get excited about!

We held a Mother's Day party on Mom's birthday at the nursing home. Two for one! She had a good time!

Dad took me out to (his) favorite restaurant for my birthday!
(I love Movie Star too!)

Don't you just love this card from my brother...?!

Boyfriend and I took Peanut to our community's Pictures in the Park and had a blast. You can see both of them were way more interested in watching the movie than taking pictures with me!

Dad and I enjoyed the senior care shrimp boil. I had to cut my residents out of the pictures, but my director of nursing made quite the photo bomb!

Look who stopped by my office for a little Pet Therapy afternoon!

I think he dreads coming to my office because he knows he gets a good scrubbing when he gets home. This is him hiding in the corner of the bathroom. He's not thrilled about what's fixing to happen, can you tell?

Nice and snug after his bath.

Just a few dementia care "experts" at the virtual dementia tour!

I posted this photo on my Instagram. I always make time for the chiropractor. You have to take care of your body! I love a good poppin!

Peanut begging for some attention as always...!

My friend Sandy's women's choir did a fantastic job at their end of the year concert.

True love. Papa John and his Granddog.

The Lighthouse Rescue Mission held their annual fundraiser, the Sweet Success desserts tasting and silent auction. We had a great time and raised money for a great cause!

My friend Nicole and me goofing off before the event.

Judson and I clean up nice, don't we?!

Well, that's it for this week's Friday Favorites! I hope you've had a great week, and have a relaxing weekend!
