February Goals!

Happy February!

Time certainly does fly! I've had lots of little "life changes" lately that have caught me by surprise. Nothing bad, just little adjustments. I need goals this month just to stay on track!

Here are a few items on my "To Do" list for the month:

1. Get closet into shape. My closet is beyond scary at the moment. I try to hang my cold weather clothes in season and swap them out for warm weather clothes when the time comes. But for some reason, good ole' Mississippi can't make up it's mind on what temperature it wants to be! I have warm weather clothes in piles on the floor because I don't want to hang them and mix them up in my "organized" closet. Ha. It's a holy mess!

2. Run three times per week. I had a pretty good routine going until these little "adjustments" came into being. Now that I am settled in my new routine I need to focus on making my runs a priority.

3. Take more photos. I was doing well with taking photos last year, but I have really been slacking off in 2016. Again I could blame it on those adjustments, but I'll just make more of an effort.

4. Start recycling. I get tons of magazines, boxes and other recyclables. I need to take the time to separate everything and create a recycling system. Do you have any suggestions on how to do this?

Show and Tell - New Year's Resolutions!

New Year

I've never been one to make too many New Year's Resolutions. I know I have the patience of a goldfish so when things don't happen quickly enough, I lose interest quickly. However, I do believe in the importance of setting goals and dreaming dreams. I believe God is honored when we live our dreams that he has placed in our hearts and minds.

So in honor of the New Year I am linking up with Andrea at Momfessionals for her
 Show and Tell Tuesdays!

Andrea is one of my favorite daily reads. You should totally check her out too.

Let's get started on those resolutions DREAMS!

1.

Lara Casey Quote #influencconf Spend more time with Him:

 Dream HIS dreams.

My goals don't amount to anything if they aren't aligned with God's plan for my life.

I plan to allow God to continue planting His dreams in my heart. They always turn out to be more than I could ever dream up anyway!

2.

His grace wins, HIS GRACE WINS!!!! No matter how far off you run, no matter how deep you in your own filth you get; there is no place where His grace can't reach you.:

I will hold myself to a standard of grace rather than perfection.

I bet y'all would never guess that I'm something of a perfectionist!

By perfectionist I mean in the way of performance. I want to be at the top of my game in every way. Not necessarily in housekeeping per se, I'm neat but not a perfectionist around the house.

It's time I allow myself a little grace!

 Live on purpose.

Easier said than done, I know. I read the book Make it Happen by Lara Casey last year and it was eye opening. I highly recommend it to all of you. God has really used Lara to encourage women to get up and at em' through her story. I've been very encouraged and have started making every effort to live life on purpose.

I bought the 2016 Power Sheets Notebook for this year, and I will be sharing more on it this Friday!

September Goals!

My favorite seasonal quote is the one from The Great Gatsby below, “life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall.” While autumn doesn’t officially start until next week, it has gotten crisp in New York. Not only is everyone happy to no longer be sweating but they are also happy to […]:

I know I say this every month, but I really can't believe it is already September!
I'm not complaining, because this officially means fall and pumpkin everything. I've even picked out Peanut's Halloween costume already. This is my favorite time of year!

I love Fall love football quote coffee autumn boots fall list pumpkin sweaters autumn quotes:

I was writing down my goals for this month and then decided against them. They're fun to write down and actually make a plan, and of course I love checking something off the to-do list. But y'all, I just can't. I am so tired and overextended and it gave me a big health scare this past week. Seriously.

So in lieu of goals this month, I am going to simply slow down and look forward to the changes the season brings. I already decorated my house for fall in mid-August cause I was sick of the humidity.  I'll do a fall home décor post soon. Until then, I'll leave you with some Pinterest photos that have me giddy!

I wish that september looked like that here...the west coast just doesnt.... however ... nice picture:

And just a little reminder for myself and all of you...

Love you guys!

August Goals!

I cannot believe it is already August!

I'm not complaining because that means I'm that much closer to fall and cool weather. I saw this on Instagram this morning...

Isn't that the truth?!

Before we talk about my August goals, let's take a look back at July's.

1. Find a good illuminator - I tried two.

This did not work on me. It soaked in like foundation and left little to no glow.

This one is good, but I know I can find something better. I will at least use this one up.

2. Get outside more - I went on one walk. It's so blasted hot and humid no one wants to be out there longer than we have to. Good ole south Mississippi. I did join a gym this month, so I can at least get the exercise benefits without dying of heat stroke.

3.  Plan a girls night - Didn't even have time to try. We have had some lunch dates, so can I count that?!

4. Read more fun books - I managed to squeeze one in and enjoyed it. Sometimes it's nice to mindlessly read for entertainment. I read Tina Fey's Bossypants.

5. Take Peanut to the vet - Done. And he didn't bite me for once!

This is not edited. It's just how my phone caught his eyes that night!
This is my sweet baby after he goes to the vet. He goes all chihuahua on me!

So, what are my August goals?

1. Get outside - I'm gonna try this one again. I live on a beautiful lake, and I need to be more intentional about enjoying it.

2. Read 2 more fun books - Here's hoping!

3. Write 5 more devotionals - I need to keep writing. I have tons of ideas jotted down on sticky notes, things that God has laid on my heart. I need to put them to paper before they leave me.

4. Create an attitude of gratitude project - This will probably be something as simple as a tweet of what I'm grateful for each day. It's better to share the good on social media than what we normally see.

5. Start grad school - YAY!
(Ask me again next month...!)

What are your goals for the month? I always love hearing from you!

I'm Back! - July Goals Edition

Hey, everyone!

I am so happy to be able to blog again. I've used this blog as an opportunity to share little bits and pieces of my life as an online scrapbook of sorts. Unfortunately, my life has been so, so busy, and I've had little to no spare time. And, of course, the blog had to be put on hold. I'm sure it will have to be postponed again in the future, but I'm happy to be back on here for the time being. Blogging takes a lot of time! You guys are worth it, though. I've really enjoyed the new friendships I've made through blogging, and I've pinned a thousand new crafts and recipes that I can't wait to try out thanks to many of your blogs as well!

I really have enjoyed writing my goals down on paper these last few months. It makes me take them a little more seriously. So, on to my July goals!

  1. Find a good illuminator - I have the palest skin in the world, and sometimes it just looks chalky. I use a highlighter nearly every day, but nothing seems to give me that dewy glow I so envy. This goal is simply to try out a few new products to find an illuminator that actually works on my pale skin.
  2. Get outside more - This one is fairly self-explanatory. I'm definitely more of an "inside girl", but I truly enjoy getting outside. Peanut loves to walk, and living on a lake makes the outdoors even more enjoyable. And I need to get out there before life takes off without me again...!
  3. Plan a girls night - I need to be more purposeful about hanging out with my girlfriends, so I'm making this a priority this month.
  4. Read more "fun" books - I tend to read books that require my complete attention and make me think. I love those books, even though I'm sure some of you would rather take a beating. With grad school starting at the end of August - at a theological seminary no less - the fun books will definitely be put on the back burner while I'm up to my eyeballs in Hebrew and Greek studies. I need to read for fun while I still have the chance.
  5. Make Peanut a Vet appointment - Poor little guy, I keep making him go to that mean old vet. Actually, he has a great vet, but he hates going. I need to update his shots so he can continue visiting everyone at the nursing home. I'm also considering getting him x-rayed once a year. When my family dog passed in 2014, we had no idea anything was even wrong with her spleen. Without her showing any symptoms they didn't know to check her out. That being said, I'm thinking about doing a good screening once a year just to keep an eye on Little Man's insides. I can't lose Peanut unexpectedly. He needs to live at least 47 more years or so... If only, right?!

What are your plans for the rest of the summer? Do you have any big vacations scheduled, or are you looking forward to some lazy summer days at home with your family?

Keep in touch! I'm so glad to be back!

New Year's Resolutions

How many people actually met their 2014 New Year's Resolution goals?

Ha. I probably gained more, spent more, ... !

Since I've started this whole blogging thing, I must admit, it helps me stay more aware of goals and little things I want to do. Here's hoping my 2015 goals will be somewhat more productive!

1. Lose weight

I know, shocker right? That's probably the first "to do" on everyone's resolution list. That never gets accomplished. The quote above says it all. If you want it, work for it.

2. Travel more

I am always busy with something. I don't know what I will ever do when I have kids. My own schedule is packed to the max. I do want to spend more time exploring and traveling, even if only little places around me. I went to (or through) Louisiana, Texas, Nebraska, Alabama, Georgia and North Carolina last year and the only thing I have to say for myself is I went to the bathroom in all of those states. I did very little "just me" activities.

3. Listen to my favorite music more

I listen to A LOT of music. But it's not all for me. Trust me - You Tube the "Chichester Psalms" and you'll understand why that's not for me. It will scare you. I usually try to listen to recordings of all the music I will be learning and performing to get it in my ear. The "riding in my car" music usually consists of K-Love because as a marketer I'm in and out of the car all of the time, and it's just too hard to get into my music. So this resolution is simply, listen to the music YOU want to hear.

4. Grow my blog
I really enjoy blogging. It's my little creative outlet where I can be just me. Even if no one reads it, I write it for me and that's okay. But since there are an awesome group of you who are reading Vogue Happiness, I really want to learn how to grow my blogging skills and really get this thing up and going!

5. Donate my hair

My hair is naturally this light blonde. I've never colored it at all. Since 90+% of blondes are colored these days (whether they used to be natural or not, they have color in it now), very few hair donations for adult wigs are blonde. I have long hair now, but I need to grow it just another inch or two before I donate it.

6. Be more adventurous

I will try most things at least once. I'm not scared of heights, or jumping out of a plane, or roller coasters, etc. I like adventurous activities for the most part. Mainly because I like to be doing. (We all know JC cannot sit still in a canoe long enough to enjoy that kind of outdoor activity...). This year I plan to do at least a handful of more adventurous things.

7. Get COMPLETELY out of debt

This girl LOVES to shop, but she's no dummy. I have had little store credit cards and such through the years, but I've never let it get out of hand. So I'm not really in a great deal of debt. Plus, I just sold my house and eliminated the mortgage (which is good debt if you can afford it). But I do have a few odds and ends from hospital stays and that sort of thing. It's time for me to clean the slate once again. I have to make this a resolution every few years just in case I start slipping.

8. Be more "in the moment"

Believe it or not, this may be the hardest resolution for me. I'm constantly a day or two ahead of myself in my brain. I'm a planner and note maker. And life keeps passing me on by. I have a few things in mind that will help me live more in the moment that I plan to try. I'm glad I journal heavily because I don't want to let my memories pass by without notice.

9. Read more (good stuff)

I'm going to try this reading challenge for the year.

10. Be more crafty

I have so many DIY and craft projects I want to do. I'm making it a goal to actually do them!

11. Start grad school

I've been trying to go to grad school for several years now, but the timing and $$$ has never worked out. I'm planning to go for my Master's in Divinity at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, and I can't wait!

12. Take one photo a day for a year

This is one of the ways I plan to be more in the moment. I have to find one thing a day that inspires me or a moment that I want to capture.

What are your resolutions for the New Year? I'd love to hear some of your ideas in the comments. Thank you for finding me and following my little blog here this year, and I hope to get to know you all better in the months ahead!

December Goals

As I was preparing this post I realized something. I'm tired. Writing down goals can be helpful. They keep me on task or encourage me to try something new. But my to-do list is getting ridiculous. Especially in December. So, this month I'm trying something new in lieu of goals.

I'm just gonna try my best.

Actually, I do have one goal:

Relax and have a great December, friends!
Come back tomorrow for a little fashion Pin-Spiration for the month!

October Goals

Can you believe it's finally October?! October is my favorite month of the year. Unfortunately, the next three months will fly by. It's time for me to slow down and enjoy every day!

So what's on the agenda for October?

1. A Successful Walk to End Alzheimer's

The Hattiesburg Walk to End Alzheimer's takes place every October. I've been the chairperson for the event since 2009, and it's like a Holiday in my life. Walk Day is so important to me and my passion for seniors adults and those with dementia (not necessarily seniors!) It takes a year of planning to get to Walk Day, and I'd say 2014 will be one of the best ever!

2.  Write at least 4 thank you notes or thinking of you cards.

With all the holidays ahead of us, this goal may seem a little out of place. However, it's the right decision for me at this time. I need to be more conscious of saying "thank you" and "I appreciate you". It's best for me to begin practicing it now so it will become a habit later.

By the way...thank you for being awesome and reading my blog!

3.  Try something new.

What do you think about this goal?! This is the perfect time of year to try something new. I may repeat this goal every month!

4.  Walk 3 times a week.

My name is Jean Claire, and I used to run 3-4 miles A DAY! I miss it so much. Life has a way of throwing curve balls your way, and it's easy to get off course. Now that I (currently...don't know for how long...) have a little more time and less stress, my goal is to get back out there at least 3 days a week. Wish me luck!

What are your goals for the month of October? Let me know in the comments section. You can always follow along daily on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
