“Come to me, all you who
are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest,” Matthew 11:28.
I’m just too tired!
I say this about 1,874 times per day. How
many of you gals know the feeling?! We work full time, serve on boards, are
members of professional organizations, sing in community choirs, take a full
load of graduate courses, try to maintain an active social life, have a mother
with advanced dementia, participate in fundraisers, manage a blog, and oh yeah,
attend church every time the doors open! We are tired!
I left out the part about owning the world’s
neediest Chihuahua who must be in my lap every waking moment. (Any non-waking
moment he prefers to spend curled up in the small of my back…)
Feeling overwhelmed, I turned to the Word
for a little encouragement and read the familiar words of Matthew chapter 11
verse 28. The word rest in this verse
is translated from the Greek word anapausis referring to a sense
of security and peace that flows from a right relationship with God the Father
through obedience to His Son.
Resting in God not only gives us peace, it illuminates our
Security. It requires no activity (thank goodness, because we can’t add
anything else to that list!). It actually demands silence. We let God reveal
Himself to us in our quiet stillness. Taking time out of our bus lives may not
be easy. But it is the only way to overcome our weakness.
Trust in God fully for your strength. Rest in Him.
